WordPress has three basic post types. Posts, Pages and Attachments.
Pages are for static content that will rarely change. This site is primarily composed of pages. A page can also be used to display an index of posts, such as an archive or blog.
Posts on the other hand, are for ephemeral content, as well as content that you may be updating regularly, such as a news section or update log.
Attachment posts are unique in that you don’t have to make them, WordPress automatically generates one for each media item uploaded. It’s similar to a portfolio page, It displays the media item, it’s title, caption and/or description.
Here’s an example attachment page.
